During the German occupation, special authorization was required to bake bread. One of the bakeries in Sadowne was managed by the Lubkiewicz family. Despite the strict prohibition of the Germans, the bread that was baked there went to Jews hiding in the local forests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On 13 January 1943, the Germans arrested two Jewish women, known by the surnames of Enzel and Czapkiewicz, who were walking through the town carrying a loaf of bread. They were forced to confess that they had received i\u0142 from Marianna Lubkiewicz. The gendarmes murdered the two women on site, went to the Lubkiewicz house and accused them of helping Jews. After many hours of brutal interrogation, they shot both Marianna and Leon Lubkiewicz, as well as their son Stefan. The two remaining children, the grown-up Stanis\u0142aw and little Irena, survived.
