The hideout was concealed well. All of the grain had to be moved out of the barn in order to uncover it. The Germans forced several Poles from the local area to do exactly that. On 20 January 1944, they searched the Sk\u0142odowski farmhouse in the village of Sk\u0142ody-Piotrowice, where Jews escaped from Zar\u0119by Ko\u015bcielne had been hiding.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the hideout was empty. Nevertheless, the Germans dragged Hieronim Sk\u0142odowski out from his home and beat him in front of his wife Amelia and their five children. He would not confess to having aided Jews, and was shot. Then a German gendarme murdered the bedridden eighty-two-year-old Aleksandra Sk\u0142odowska, Hieronim’s mother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Germans left the bodies of the victims where they had fallen, while the rest of the family was transported to the prison in Jasienica.
