Stanis\u0142aw and W\u0142adys\u0142awa Krysiewicz from Waniewo had five children aged between three and nine. In the autumn of 1942, they took in eight Jews from the ghetto in nearby Soko\u0142y for whom they made hiding places under the barn and whom they provided with food.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the night of 7 September 1943, German gendarmes surrounded the farm. They dragged Stanis\u0142aw from his house, beat him unconscious, and finally shot him. Then they set fire to the buildings and murdered the fleeing Jews. W\u0142adys\u0142awa died three days later following a series of brutal interrogations at a detention center in Tykocin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Germans gave an ultimatum to the neighbors of the Krysiewiczs: either they would take in the children, or they would die with their parents. The children were later split up and sent to stay either with relatives or in orphanages.
